The Thorp Building is a 200,000+ square foot former top-secret bomb sight factory in Northeast Minneapolis that has been gradually revitalized over time into a creative hub of studios, workshops, and small businesses.
AWH Architects works closely with the owner, Bohm Commercial Real Estate, to take a phased approach to the building’s restoration and adaptive reuse. From life safety updates and entitlement reviews to ongoing renovations and site design, our team has provided practical guidance every step of the way.
Our role has been one of collaboration and continuity—collaborating with the owner on development strategies to meet modern needs without losing sight of its industrial character. This includes helping new tenants settle into the space with designs that balance historic preservation and contemporary function; Strike Theater, SEIU, Mercury Mosaics, Bodies by Burgoon, Brickmania, and others.
As the Thorp Building continues to evolve, AWH remains a steady partner, helping to shape the site into a vibrant, flexible destination for makers, artists, and entrepreneurs. This project is an example of how we work: by listening, planning, and building lasting relationships with our clients as their needs change over time.
