The new pavilion will be a gathering space for school groups, hikers, and picnickers to learn about the glacial terrain and uniquely well preserved ecosystem at the Ordway Prairie. The folded roof plane floats like a wing over the prairie, and mimics the hummocky geology of the area. The structure will consist of a corten steel skeleton, which will naturally patina and blend with the surrounding prairie. Water collected from the roof will disperse on a nearby gabion cage filled with locally harvested field stone, and aid in properly infiltrating the runoff back into the soil without excess erosion.
