Cedarhurst Mansion is one of Cottage Grove’s most recognizable historic landmarks. First built as an 1860s farmhouse and transformed in 1917 by architect Cass Gilbert, the estate is known for its grand two-story Doric portico, sweeping lawns, formal rose garden, and distinctive Neo-Classical character. Today, it remains a rare example of an early 20th-century country residence that has preserved its architectural presence and historic landscape.
AWH Architects is working with the property owner to revitalize Cedarhurst Mansion for year-round wedding and event use while honoring the integrity of the historic estate. The project includes careful restoration of the building’s exterior and interior features, improvements to the grounds, and upgrades to essential building systems that will support modern hosting needs. A new one-story atrium, designed to complement rather than overshadow the original house, will provide additional gathering space and improve event circulation without altering the mansion’s iconic presence.
Throughout the site, new walkways, restored gardens, improved parking, and accessibility upgrades will help welcome visitors while preserving the estate’s historic setting. The result is a sensitive, thoughtful rehabilitation that safeguards Cedarhurst Mansion’s history and ensures it can be enjoyed by the public for generations to come.
