The Presque Isle Bandshell is being reimagined as a gathering place that honors its history while creating a better experience for performers and visitors. The new design sits lightly within the forested landscape of Presque Isle Park and respects the character of the original bandshell, which has served the community for generations.
The project replaces the aging structure with a warm cedar-clad building shaped to welcome audiences and frame views of the stage. Its form draws inspiration from the surrounding trees and the natural bowl of the site, creating an outdoor room that feels both intimate and open to the lake. The design improves accessibility, expands the lawn seating area, and adds a more generous stage and backstage support spaces for performers.
Materials were selected to feel rooted in the park. Cedar siding, stone accents, and natural finishes echo the textures of the island. Paths, seating, and gathering spaces are arranged to protect existing trees and improve comfort for visitors. The salvaged heavy timber beams from the original bandshell will be stored for reuse, giving them a future life within the community.
The new bandshell strengthens a beloved local landmark and supports music, art, and cultural events for years to come.
