ENERGY

Built to thrive in the harsh climate of West Central Minnesota, this Phius ZERO Certified home shows how a robust thermal envelope and an energy efficient design can outperform traditional construction in a challenging northern climate. Certified as a Phius 2024 ZERO home, it produces as much renewable energy as it consumes each year.

The design follows the core principles of Passive - House design:
- Continuous thermal barrier
- Airtight construction
- High performance windows
- Minimize Thermal bridging
- Balanced fresh air ventilation with heat recovery

Together with structural insulated panels (SIPs), a durable RFORM insulated foundation, and in-slab electric radiant heating, these strategies create a home that stays warm in winter, cool in summer, and consistently comfortable inside.

For homeowners, this means lower energy bills, healthier indoor air quality, and long term durability. This project demonstrates how an integrated, performance based design process can deliver a net zero energy home in Minnesota that is practical, efficient, and built to last.
