Community Engagement
Located in the heart of Minneapolis's historic Linden Hills neighborhood, the Lake Harriet Spiritual Community embraces its role as a guardian of a historic church turned spiritual haven. This non-profit organization, dedicated to community well-being, enlisted AWH Architects to embark on a transformative journey—one that honors the past while preparing for a vibrant future.
Lake Harriet Spiritual Community took a significant step in preserving its heritage by partnering with AWH Architects. The collaboration commenced with a National Registration Nomination, a testament to the commitment to safeguarding the spiritual and architectural legacy embodied by this historic center.
Beyond architectural prowess, AWH Architects provided invaluable guidance in the form of a Conditions Assessment Report. The collaboration extended to consultation on grants and funding avenues, ensuring that the organization could address immediate maintenance needs and devise a comprehensive restoration plan for sustained vibrancy.
AWH Architects recently completed an Exterior Restoration Package, made possible by a Legacy Grant. This meticulous endeavor encompassed a thorough examination of every exterior facet—the roof, original lead glass windows, masonry, exterior stairs, railings, and doors. Historic research played a pivotal role, determining the original configuration of doors, wood fascia boards, historic slate roof, and even identifying a modern replacement for the skylight crowning the main dome.
Lake Harriet Spiritual Community, in collaboration with AWH Architects, is not merely restoring a structure; it is safeguarding a sacred space that has witnessed generations of shared stories and spiritual journeys. This restoration isn't just about bricks and mortar; it's a commitment to nurturing a sense of community, fostering spiritual growth, and ensuring that this historic gem continues to inspire for generations to come.
