Sejong Academy is a Korean Charter School located in St. Paul, Minnesota that will serve a diverse body of students from Pre-K through 12th grade. Housed in the historic Krank Manufacturing Company building on transit-oriented University Ave, the project navigates specific historic, code, and educational requirements to create a dynamic school environment that meets the needs of both the building-owner and Sejong Academy. Within a tight budget, care was taken to ensure social breakout spaces and group study rooms were scattered throughout to account for multiple forms of learning and overlap of programs.
Interior accent walls and carpet were chosen in direct collaboration with the school to create bright and cheery classroom environments as well as assist in navigation of the corridors and group study locker bays. Pre-K and Kindergarten rooms integrate individual bathrooms, sinks and casework, as well as zones of learning delineated by colors and interior flexible furnishings to support early childhood development. Overall, the project creates an enduring facility that maintains flexibility for Sejong Academy’s growing needs and educational requirements.
